Thong Nai Pan Noi is Koh Phangan’s premier luxury destination with 4 out of the Island’s 5 luxury resorts on this one beach. The reason they are all there is a white powder sand beach and crystal clear water. Add to this an unspoilt jungle fringed location and vibrant small village, and you have the perfect luxury holiday destination.

New resort located right on the beach which represents excellent value for money.
Completed in 2012, Buri Rasa marks something of a departure from the design concept of the other luxury resorts in Koh Phangan. Rather than using a dark wood motif in the Lanna style, the design style is very modern and light. The pastel colours and styling are in many ways reminiscent of the styling of a Caribbean resort albeit with hints of Thai art.
This is definitely a luxury resort in terms of comfort and facilities. The rooms are well appointed and the beds comfortable. There is a good restaurant, a gym and a swimming pool. However, the concept of this resort is focused towards value for money. The rooms are slightly smaller than the other luxury resorts on the same beach and some of the rooms are stacked in three storey buildings around a courtyard. Buri Rasa is half the price of similar resorts and every bit as good.
What Buri Rasa does have that some other resorts in Southern Thailand don’t have is a really good location. It’s right on the beach and right on the outskirts of Thong Nai Pan village where you can find a selection of restaurants in all price ranges.
Overall, Buri Rasa is an excellent choice for both couples and families. Great ‘bang for your buck’. If you like the concept you might also want to try their sister resort in Chaweng beach in Koh Samui.

Indulgent luxury beach front resort.
Open since 2008 this is Koh Phangan’s most luxurious hotel. The accommodation is made up of large rooms and detached villas. All the rooms have a plunge pool. The more expensive rooms front onto the beach with outside seating areas leading onto powder white sand.
The room sizes are large, slightly over 100 sqm to 240 sqm. Bear in mind that the average room size for Bangkok hotels is 35 sqm. All have large screen TVs, DVD players and espresso machines. The only reason you would want to leave your room is to go to the beach or the restaurant, which is excellently designed and decorated.
A lot of effort has gone into building the central foyer and pool area. The pool is slightly small but it’s well done. Beach front land in Thong Nai Pan is at a premium so they can be forgiven for making the most of the space.
If you want to splash out on something special this is the place to go. Plenty of celebrities, European and Thai, have stayed here. It’s that good.

3rd Place: Santhiya Koh Phangan Resort & Spa
Deluxe Room 8,100 to 13,200 THB
Supreme Deluxe Room 7,700 to 10,900 THB
Pool Villa 13,500 to 17,000 THB
Sea View Pool Villa 13,500 to 17,00 THB
Royal Grand Pool Villa 16,000 to 31,700 THB
Large resort set slightly back from the main beach.
The resort covers a large area and everything is on a big scale. Don’t worry about the walking though as the resort has plenty of golf buggies, and even a ‘wooden’ minivan, driven by staff to ferry you from one part of the resort to another. The pool is also on a gargantuan style with faux waterfalls venting satisfyingly into the far end of the pool. If you have kids who like to splash about in the pool all day then this is probably the place for your family holiday. The pleasant staff will happily entertain your children all day as well – they love kids here.
The restaurant and reception areas are an architectural masterpiece. The owner is an architect, and incidentally the brother of the owner of the Panviman, and this resort is clearly not only a business but an opportunity for him to showcase his ability at design.
The only downside, or perhaps benefit depending on your perspective, is that the resort is cut off from the main beach and the rest of the village. This said Santhiya is, in terms of visitor numbers, the most popular resort in Thong Nai Pan Noi. Clearly lots of people want a resort with a full range of facilities where you don’t need to leave. This suits some people. If this is what you are after then Santhiya is an excellent choice.

4th Place: Panviman Resort Koh Phangan
Superior Hotel Room: 6,500 to 8,800 THB
Deluxe Hotel Room: 8,500 to 9,800 THB
Family Cottages: 12,400 to 19,800 THB
Pool Villas: 14,500 to 17,800 THB
Spa Villas: 14,200 to 25,400 THB
Presidential Suite: 16,00 to 29,400 THB
Hillside luxury resort with small private beach and dramatic cliff top restaurant.
The Panviman Resort and Spa was the first luxury resort on Koh Phangan. It has been there since the 1990s and has grown over time both in price (in 1999 a room which cost 500 THB a night now costs over 10,000 THB) and in facilities. It has a swimming pool, a gym, a beach front restaurant and a fantastic hillside bar which no one ever appears to use.
This may be our 4th best choice, but please don’t think there is anything wrong with this resort. They are many reasons to book here. It has a really low key laid back feel. And it’s professionally run – they have been at it for a long time. We really like the beach front restaurant, Stone Beach Restaurant. It’s not that expensive, and in our opinion the Thai food they serve is some of the best on the island.
The rooms at Panviman are nice. The only downside is that the hotel rooms are located within large concrete accommodation blocks. The cottages are better as they are more spaced out. The top room, the ‘Presidential Suite’, is very special. Built into granite rock, it has a large seating deck right on the rocky shoreline of the headland. This provides excellent views and a peaceful ambience. They built it with honeymoon couples in mind – luxurious and private – and we couldn’t think of a better place for a couple to enjoy their nuptials. If you don’t want far to travel after you get married perhaps consider using their wedding services. They will organise everything, including a priest, and marry you right on the white sand of the private beach. Nice way to start married life!
