Haad Salad is a very popular beach with families seeking a beach holiday in relaxed surroundings. There are a small handful resorts, restaurants and bars. The better resorts offer mid-price range accommodation on the beach with a swimming pool and large restaurant. The excellent Mae Haad beach, which has the best snorkelling on Koh Phangan, is a short distance away.

Small beach with only 3 resorts just to the South of Haad Salad. Haad Gruad Beach Resort has a swimming pool and mid-range accommodation. The other resorts have basic beach bungalows and small restaurants. It is only a 19 minute walk to the more lively beach and village of Haad Yao.

Haad Tian is a small beach with a single resort of 22 beach bungalows. You can’t get much more chilled out than this, but if you do need more action lively Haad Yao is a 16 minute walk away.

Haad Yao is the busiest beach on the West Coast with 13 resorts and a variety of different bars and restaurants both on the beach and in the village. The beach is long with white sand and a fringe of coconut trees. It is good for swimming nearly year round and has a small coral reef in the bay. It has a gym, diving schools and volleyball on the beach. Haad Yao is located 10.7 km from the main ferry terminal in Thong Sala. It takes around 24 minutes to drive from Thong Sala Ferry Pier to Haad Yao.

Haad Son is also known as ‘Secret Beach‘ which about sums it up. Haad Son has two resorts. The large Haad Son Resort covers both sides of the peninsula at the Northern end of the beach. At the Southern end of the beach there is the Secret Beach Restaurant and Secret Beach Bungalows. Haad Son Resort is an 800 metres walk from lively Haad Yao.

Haad Chao Phao
Haad Chao Phao is 300 metre long white sand beach with a coral reef about 100 metres off the coast. The beach is good for swimming. There are several beach front resorts and more resorts set slightly back from the beach. This is a lively area with a ‘bohemian’ feel. The resorts in Haad Chao Phao are popular with the ‘yoga crowd’ taking yoga and other alternative therapy courses in nearby Sri Thanu which is 1.1 km from the central point of Haad Chao Pao beach.

Sri Thanu is an area of three parts: beach, village and peninsula. Sri Thanu is very popular with people taking yoga courses and treatment with alternative therapies. Orion Centre is on the beach in Sri Thanu near the peninsula and Agama Yoga in Sri thani village. There are lots of bars, cafes and restaurants, many of which offer organic, vegetarian and vegan food. The proximity of Sri Thanu to Haad Yao, Chalokulum and Thong Sala makes Sri Thanu an excellent starting point for exploring the Island.

Hin Kong is a long beach stretching around 2 km southwards from the south side of the Sr Thanu peninsula. The beach, whilst not good for swimming, is dramatic and beautiful. From Hin Kong beach there is view of several small islands and larger neighbour Koh Samui. Hin Kong beach is also the location of Koh Phangan’s only mangrove forest. The appeal of Hin Kong is the laid back feel of the place and the wide open spaces between the resorts, bars and restaurants which line the stretch of road running parallel to Hin Kong beach. A lot of Koh Phangan’s foreign residents have opted to settle in Hin Kong because of the convenience of travel to other parts of the Island especially Thong Sala and Ban Tai.

Ao Plaay Laem
Plaay Laem is one of two very small beaches on the headland south of the long Hin Kong beach. This is not a swimming beach but it is a beautiful location and near to a very wide range of bars and restaurants from Thong Sala upto Chalokulum. Plaay Laem beach is location of the only luxury resort on the West side of Koh Phangan and one its coolest bars, the Amsterdam Bar. Its only takes 5 minutes to drive from Ao Plaay Laem to Thong Sala. If you want hassle free car rental then travel to Koh Phangan via Surat Thani Airport and rent a car at the airport from a company such as Hertz or Sixt, which you can take over to Koh Phangan on the car ferry.

Nai Wok is a very small and beautiful beach on the edge of Thong Sala. People stay here primarily to be able to enjoy the food and social life of Thong Sala and Ban Tai, whilst avoiding staying in Thong Sala Town itself. The accommodation varies between luxury resorts such the Grand Sea Resort and cheaper beach bungalows such as those at the excellent Beck’s Resort.
