For 2,100 THB per person the Lomprayah High Speed Ferry Company with take you by speedboat from either Maenam Pier in Koh Samui or Thong Sala pier in Koh Phangan to Koh Tao and the small neighbouring island of Koh Nangyuan. Both islands are in the protected water of the Ang Thong National Park and are teeming with fish in clear blue waters, making the best snorkelling trip in the Gulf of Thailand.

Good Service from the Lomprayah Staff

The Lomprayah people are very professional and you can book in confidence for a reliable, polite and safe service guaranteed. We thoroughly recommend them! The speedboat holds up to 12 people. For this trip the 7 of us friends had the boat to ourselves (that is us in the pictures. I am Pongsai, the girl in the pink hat looking over the Island of Koh Nangyuan).

First Stop Koh Tao

The first stop on the speed boat tour is Koh Tao, where they drop you off from the boat to snorkel in Mango Bay, Tian Nok Bay, Hin Kong Bay and Sairee Bay. Exactly where they go depends on the weather. Visibility is everything for snorkelling and on some days particular areas are better than others. However, no need to worry, the Lomprayah people know where is best.

Snorkelling

I am not a particularly good swimmer, nor are my other female friends. This was not a problem on this trip as they have life jackets for you to wear as well as good quality masks and snorkels. We saw loads of fish of all colours and bright beautiful corals about 4 metres below us.

Lunch

After about an hour and an half of snorkelling and some short trips back on the boat between bays, we headed to Koh Nangyuan island for lunch. Koh Nangyuan is a protected island and you are not allowed to bring any food or drinks – the packaging will damage the environment. This was not a problem as a wonderful buffet lunch was waiting for us at 12 noon at the Nangyuan Island Dive Resort. You eat in a large dining hall overlooking the beach. The buffet has over 30 different hot dishes, Thai and international food, as well as salad, bread and soft drinks. Alcohol costs extra but as it was lunch time and we had more exploring and snorkelling to do none of us really felt like drinking beer or wine anyway so that didn’t matter.

Koh Nangyuan

After lunch we had an hour and half to spend on Koh Nangyuan before the speedboat left for the return journey. The first thing we did was climb up to the top of the viewpoint. This is an iconic view, every bit as good as the marketing photographs, which takes in two small Islands connected by sandbar. The walk up is fairly easy and took about 15 minutes. After this we went back down to the beach and snorkelled until 2.30pm came. the speedboat departed exactly on time and we were back at Thong Sala pier at 3.30pm, the boat then carried on back to Koh Samui which is a further 20 or so minutes. We all felt we had had a great day out and returned back to our hotel in Thong Nai Pan Noi, Buri Rasa Village (which was absolutely fantastic), exhausted but happy.
