Koh Samui has some impressive golf facilities. The jewel in the crown for Koh Samui golf is the Santiburi Samui Country Club near Meanam. It is an 18 hole championship course used in the PGA Asian Tour. Just as Koh Phangan is very different to Koh Samui, so Phangan Golf Range is very different to Santiburi Samui Country Club.
For a start is not connected to a 5 star hotel. Rather it is on a piece of land not far from Koh Phangan Hospital and Thongsala. It is not a place that has a dress code or pretensions to social refinement. Rather all are welcome to Phangan Golf Range, and any manner of attire (in keeping with the dress code of Thailand in general) is accepted.
Whereas 18 holes on Santiburi will set you back a pretty penny, similar to in Europe, you can get a bucket of balls and whack them on the range for just a few hundred Baht.
For those looking for something more than just practice, there is also a crazy golf course where you can test your putting technique in competition with your friends.
Lessons are available for the driving range. Phangan Golf Range is open from 10 am to 6 pm. The owners are Scandinavian.
The golfing experience is obviously not a patch on that found in Koh Samui, but Phangan Golf Range provides an hour or so of fun for families, groups of friends and for those keen to hit a few balls out into the jungle.
